Fast Food Nutrition

For my next blog post I decided to look at some fast food chain nutrition facts. After choosing 3 different chains, I made a "healthy" decision based on how an item sounds versus the actual facts. The outcome was mostly what I thought but there was one item I was suprised by. The baja salad from Wendy's, which happens to be one of my favorites, is in reality pretty bad for you all around. With high sodium levels and a high caloric intake, I sadly will not be eating this on a whim anymore. I cannot just judge a food item based on looks off a menu or how it sounds; I must look at the facts and come to a realization that not all is how it seems.

Here I inserted a spreadsheet and ranked the food items from good to bad.

  1. I know i get so bummed when I eat a salad at a fast food restaurant or even a restaurant and find out that what they put in it and the dressing makes it bad for you. I came to the conclusion that home made salads are probably the best salads for you because you know the ingredients and know it is actually healthy for you

  2. I agree with both of you, I was at applebees and most of the salads had over 1000 calories, yet a cheeseburger is only 570. But I don't want that junk in my body either. When I workout, I want to consume high quality nutrient dense food to help my body recover. I have found it very difficult to eat healthy without bringing my own food, either to work or school. When I don't eat healthy I feel lethargic and depressed. After looking at your spreadsheet all I can think is how and why is there that much sodium in a salad?

  3. Dang! I love the chicken fajita pita! haha. I totally thought that it was the better choice for you, but apparently not. I will be making better decisions as well. The Baja Salad sounds good too, but salad dressing always kills it!

  4. Great job on making the spreadsheet, It looks great!!! I hate fast food restaurants and will never even pass by them. Just imagine eating a cheeseburger with bacon from jack in the box with 1090 calories. I can not believe people do not care how much calories they are putting into their bodies with only one meal. There is no nutrition in those burgers other than sodium, trans fat, and bad carbohydrate.
